McDonald's Fort rises in County Antrim as a rath and adjoining earthworks, preserving a shape older than the castle demense that later claimed the land. The mound may have served as a fortress, a boundary marker, or a sacred anchor for whoever first shaped the soil. Shane's name arrived later, layered over an older human presence that the earth still remembers.
