What is recorded here

Killeggan Fort in Drumadarragh is a raised rath where earth was stacked into a defensible ring during the early Christian period. The soil itself becomes a boundary, separating the ordinary field from a place shaped for warning, refuge or display. Men may have watched the road from that height, judged approaching shadows and decided whether to fight or flee. The fort still holds that much of its purpose: a small elevation built to keep danger at a distance.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RAISED RATH: KILLAGAN FORT. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
