RAISED RATH in Ballykeel

RAISED RATH

What is recorded here

Mud and muscle built the banded ring before written history, shaping a defensible circle where Ballykeel still stands. People may have lived inside the ditch, watched the land through seasonal storms, or abandoned the trap when hunger or fear called them elsewhere. The earth kept the shape long after those choices faded.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RAISED RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
