Why this matters

Rainscar is a sea cliff composed mainly of Carboniferous limestone, formed around 340 million years ago through the accumulation of marine sediments. The cliff is notable for its exposure of fossil-rich rock layers and its role in the coastal geomorphology of the Yorkshire coast.
