What is recorded here
This blue commemorative plaque records: The Ragged School. A national charitable movement provided Ragged Schools for children unable to pay to attend the National and British Schools run by the churches.
The Ragged School in Newport Gwent was part of a nationwide initiative providing free education to impoverished children who could not afford church-run schools, thus playing a crucial role in expanding educational access during the 19th century.
A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
