This blue commemorative plaque records: In 1939 the RAF 17 Balloon Centre was established in this area. In 1942 it was renamed as RAF Station Sutton on Hull. From 1943-59 it was home to the RAF School of Firefighting and Rescue. Closed in 1961 Recorded plaque organisation: Hull City Council.
RAF Station Sutton on Hull served crucial roles during World War II and thereafter, initially as a Balloon Centre for anti-aircraft defense and subsequently as the RAF School of Firefighting and Rescue, contributing significantly to military protection and emergency response training.
