Quay

What is recorded here

Excavations in 1993 exposed a range of waterfront features which related to episodes of reclamation in the 13th-century. The excavations confirmed that the area was originally foreshore and there were four separate woodenrevements built, two orieinted E-W and the other two North-South (Hayden 1993, 29-31). The first habitation on the site was associated with two substantial masonry structures, one was a rectangular building (ext. dims. Wth.10m, L 17m, T 1.6m). The second structure was associated with an area of rough paving.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
