What is recorded here

Promontory fort stands on jagged cliffs west of Lettergesh, where a narrow earthen bank still closes a small peninsula against the sea. The entrance is barely wider than a person, suggesting exclusion rather than invitation. Local names and shape point to a place made for watching, hiding or defending, not for display.

On the jagged cliffs c. 1.5km W of Lettergesh beach. A small peninsula (N-S c. 26m), immediately to E of the stream marked 'Oweynalissa' on OS 6-inch maps, is known locally as 'Lios'. At its landward end it is enclosed by a curving earthen bank (H 1.5-0.75m) with a narrow entrance (Wth 0.6m) about one third of the way along it (info. T. Robinson). Not visited.
