St Sepulchre's Palace kept a prison in its south-east corner around 1302, placing condemned people beside the Archbishop's pillory so punishment watched imprisonment and imprisonment watched punishment. The cell wall touched the Dean's manse, reducing a religious house to a machine for exposing human failure. It broke partly in 1326, waited through decades with standing walls, and returned through repair in 1529, as if Dublin believed that corner needed to remember how to hurt.

Clarke mentions the former existence of a prison associated with St Sepulchre's Palace (DU018-020118-) in c. 1302; partly demolished by 1326, walls standing 1504 and repaired in 1529 (2002, 23). The prison seems to have abutted one of the enclosing walls of the site next to the Dean’s manse (O’Donovan 2003, 257). According to documentary sources it is located in the SE corner of the precinct, close to the Archbishop’s pillory or punishment stocks (DU018-020123-).
