Arboe Abbey in Farsnagh, County Tyrone, has been a sacred place since early Christian times, later becoming a church and graveyard. The site continued in use through the medieval period and into the sixteenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. What is now recorded as an archaeological point may have once been a living community where prayer, burial and daily work intertwined. The name itself, Arboe or Ardboe, carries the shape of that older world, even when the buildings no longer stand.
