What is recorded here

Powrie Castle is a ruined 16th-century stronghold in Dundee where the western wall has collapsed and the remaining stone wings face each other across an empty courtyard. Thomas Fothringham rebuilt the estate after the Scrymgeours destroyed his first castle in 1492, creating a residence that survived until at least 1684. The north wing still stands as a private home, preserving the vaulted floors and round tower that once anchored the larger domestic complex.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Powrie Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Powrie Castle was built in the 13th century by the de Powrie family, a prominent Scottish noble lineage. It is remembered as a strategic stronghold in the Scottish Borders, reflecting the turbulent feudal history of the region.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
