This green commemorative plaque records: Captain Powell Snell raised the first troop of Gloucestershire Yeomanry here at the Plough Hotel 30th July 1795 Recorded plaque organisation: Cheltenham Civic Society.
Captain Powell Snell was instrumental in establishing the Gloucestershire Yeomanry, a local militia force, on July 30, 1795, in response to national security concerns during the French Revolutionary Wars.
