What is recorded here

Crannog is a water island, often timber and earth, built to keep people and herds safe from rain, raid and hunger. The name still stands in Tullywasnacunagh, County Down, but the water and wood may have vanished long before modern maps. If the crannog is real, it was a small defiant world: a kitchen, a byre and a life suspended above the lake.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as possible CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
