Detached three-bay single-storey over basement toll house, built 1842-3, with central porch. Hipped slate roof with cut-stone chimneystack and brackets to eaves. Limestone ashlar walls with cut-limestone band framing top and ends of façade and with decorative pediment to porch. Square-headed window openings with two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows and cut-stone sills. Square-headed door opening with replacement glazed timber door. Located at centre of Portumna Bridge.

A beautifully constructed and meticulously finished toll house occupying a central position on Portumna Bridge. The replacement front door has not detracted significantly from the character of the toll house which was constructed in tandem with the second Portumna Bridge (1837-42).
