Portchester Castle, keep and inner courtyard is a castle, fort or tower in Fareham, England. Perhaps soldiers marched the courtyard while king and church watched the harbour. Maybe the keep still holds the shape of those guards in its stone. Imagine a lantern moving along the wall at tide, answering the sea instead of waiting for dawn.

Built by the Romans as a fort (Portus Adurni) in the 3rd or 4th century AD and later adapted by the Normals in the 12th century, Portchester Castle is important as one of the best-preserved Norman castles in England and a rare example of a Roman military site repurposed in the medieval period.
