Kevin Street Barracks   A 19th-century barracks on Upper Kevin Street was recorded in 2025 in the ‘Our Shared Built Military Heritage: The online mapping, inventorying and recording of the Army Barracks of Ireland, 1690-1921' a project that was funded by the North South Research Programme 2022-2024 and co-led by University College Dublin and The Open University' (Forbes and McGrath 2025).  The barracks was described in the inventory of the ‘Army Barracks of Ireland - Our Shared Military Heritage, 1690-1921’ as follows; ‘A barracks situated on Kevin Street on part of the site of the medieval Palace of St Sepulchre [DU018-020118- ], which served for over six centuries as the official residence of the archbishop of Dublin. Sold to the government in 1803 and first occupied by the army in 1804-5, it remained a military barracks until at least 1818 and possibly later into the 1820s before being handed over to the nascent police force, thereafter becoming the first headquarters for the Dublin Metropolitan Police. The barracks in 1812-13 had a capacity for ten infantry officers and 334 infantrymen. It was an active police barracks throughout the nineteenth century and was used by An Garda Síochána until 2017.
