What is recorded here

Situated just off the summit of a low hill in pasture. Indicated and named ‘Pillar’ on the 1840 OS 6-inch map and ‘Tower’ on the 1916 edition. A solid masonry structure (H 3.9m; 1.75m x 1.8m) built on rock outcrop with an incomplete conical top. The NE side has protruding steps which rise to the top. Known locally as ‘Bridgeman’s Tower’, this was in full view of Teernea House once owned by the Bridgeman family, and may have been used as a flagstand.
