Peter Robinson

Peter Robinson, DUP deputy leader, was a prominent figure in the founding of Ulster Resistance in November 1986, the loyalist paramilitary movement created to oppose the Anglo-Irish Agreement. In August 1986 he led several hundred Loyalists in an invasion of the Monaghan village of Clontibret, a dramatic act of cross-border defiance that foreshadowed the group's birth. Belfast, his home city, became the stage where political protest hardened into armed resistance, transforming Unionist outrage into a sustained militant campaign.
