This blue commemorative plaque records: Percy Lionel Shurmer 1890-1959 Politician and Philanthropist. MP for Sparkbrook 1945-1959. Founder of the Shurmer Sparrows Parties for Children. Lived at 140 Belgrave Road near here for the whole of his political life. Recorded plaque organisation: Birmingham Civic Society.
Percy Lionel Shurmer was a British politician who served as MP for Sparkbrook from 1945 until his death in 1959, and is remembered for founding the Shurmer Sparrows Parties, which provided entertainment for children.
