Perborough Castle is an Iron Age univallate hillfort on Cow Down between Compton and Hampstead Norreys. Excavations in 1838 revealed grain storage pits and slag pits, suggesting a lightly defended place where people may have come and gone with the seasons. Centuries of ploughing have blurred the ramparts, but the earth still holds the shape of that temporary life.
