This commemorative plaque records: Pentrich Revolution June 9 1817. On this site stood Asherfields Barn. Here the rebels met to plan their march
The Pentrich Revolution Rebels were a group of English industrial workers who planned an uprising in 1817 against poor working conditions and lack of political representation; though the revolt was quickly suppressed, it highlighted social tensions post-Napoleonic Wars.
