Penlle'r Castell is a ruined medieval castle on the summit of Mynydd y Gwair in Swansea, built probably in the late 13th century as a military watchpost for the Marcher Lords. Standing 1213 feet above sea level, it commanded the ridge route into northern Gower and could have warned Swansea of raids from the lords of Is Cennan. Only deep ditches, earthen banks and fragments of dry-stone walls remain, but the shape still suggests two towers perched where the mountain meets the sky.
