Penkill Castle is a 16th-century Boyd tower in south Ayrshire, repeated in stone and memory rather than hidden from them. William Bell Scott painted its staircase and died there, while Christina Rossetti praised its quiet fertile comeliness. The castle has changed owners several times, yet it still arrives whole in the mind, a place where art and blood and time have stopped arguing.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Penkill Castle as Castle (medieval), Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Penkill Castle, located in Ayrshire, Scotland, was originally built in the 13th century and later rebuilt in the 17th century by the Kennedy family, who held the estate for several generations. It is remembered as a historic family seat and an example of Scottish tower house architecture.
