Penitential station in Ballynew (ballynahinch By.)

Close to a byroad on a S-facing slope. It consists of a natural granite boulder surrounded on N side by a small cairn of stones, on top of which is a portion of a plain limestone cross (L 0.35m, Wth 0.3m). According to Redington (1906), this cross was decorated with a scroll design but no trace of it is now visible. Amongst the cairn stones are some of white quartz and a rounded boulder with a red streak which is supposed to be blood from St Ceannanach's head.
