Penicuik, St Mungo's Well

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Penicuik, St Mungo's Well as Holy Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

St Mungo's Well is associated with St Mungo (Columba of Diocese of Glasgow), a 6th-century Christian saint venerated in Scotland. The well was traditionally visited for its healing properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin, and may have been a site of pilgrimage or ritual cleansing.
