What is recorded here

Venlaw Castle Hotel still keeps its south lodge on Edinburgh Road, a early 20th Century gate lodge beside a matching pier and wall. The stones mark the edge of a private estate, not an invitation for strangers, yet they preserve the moment when Peebles first dressed itself for grand tourism. A carriage may have clipped that wall or a servant may have waited in the lodge for hours, both lives reduced to a line on a modern map.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
