Peebles - Castledykes - Loudoun Hill - Irvine (?)

Roman Road (roman)

What is recorded here

Castledykes still marks a Roman military road crossing Loudoun Hill, linking Peebles toward Irvine. Soldiers and merchants may have worn that clay flat under carts and boots, yet no surviving account names the drivers or destinations. The hill hides its own evidence, preserving only a line on a modern map instead of a road anyone can walk.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Peebles - Castledykes - Loudoun Hill - Irvine (?) as Roman Road (roman). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
