Castle Hill in Peebles, Scottish Borders, still carries the shape of a medieval castle, though no intact tower or curtain wall remains visible. The land may have swallowed stone, roadworks may have broken the rampart, or men may have taken the best stones for other buildings. Whatever vanished, the hill keeps the castle's name and the town still orbits that forgotten centre.
