Outer ditch and Trig Pillar, Uffington Castle is a castle, fort or tower in Vale of White Horse, England. Perhaps the ditch cut through chalk grass while the pillar stood witness above, marking a boundary no longer drawn on modern charts. Maybe soldiers paced the rim at dusk, listening for horses in the valley below. Imagine the castle reduced to a scar and a brass rod, waiting for someone stubborn enough to look twice.
