Hot summers in the Vale of Glamorgan drove people to open-air water, and St Donat's Castle answered with a swimming pool built during the 20th Century. The stones still hold the shape of that joy, waiting for bare feet and the smell of rain on warm rock.

St Donat's Castle, including its open-air swimming baths, was originally built in the 13th century and significantly expanded in the 19th century by the Williams-Wynn family. It is remembered for its later role as the site of Atlantic College, an international boarding school founded in 1962 by the philanthropist Lord David Hanbury.
