On 12 and 17 May 1992, Coalisland civilians clashed with Parachute Regiment and King's Own Scottish Borderers soldiers, forcing a cancellation of military patrols and removal of a brigade commander. Three people were hospitalised and at least four others injured, while two soldiers were hospitalised and another had already lost his legs in the Cappagh killings. The town's resistance broke through official procedure, turning a small border village into the place where military command itself was shaken.
