Old Place of Monreith is a medieval tower house in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, built around 1600 on the first Maxwell landing in Wigtownshire. It keeps gun loops, a circular stair tower and a tall hall chimney, while the valley below remembers the loch that made the site strong. The Maxwells lived there until 1683, when they moved to Myretoun, leaving behind a house that became a farm, lost its front door and waited empty for twenty years.
