Old Melrose

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Old Melrose as Fishpond (medieval)(possible), Holy Well (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Old Melrose is associated with St Melrose, an early Christian saint linked to the 6th-century monastery in the Borders region of Scotland. The site may have been used for healing rituals, as holy wells were often believed to possess curative properties in Scottish folklore.
