Old Grave Yard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Old Grave Yard in County Meath holds a small chapel inside rectangular banks, with headstones scattered from 1811 to 1991. The slight rise above the low-lying land gives the place a quiet claim on the sky, as if the dead refused to be swallowed by the flat world around them. People may have chosen that height because it stayed dry, visible and separate, a small refusal of forgetting.
Situated on a slight rise in a low-lying landscape. The chapel (ME024-006----) is within a rectangular graveyard (dims c. 37m E-W; c. 33m N-S) defined by grass-covered earthen banks and hedges. The few headstones date from 1811 to 1991. Compiled by: Michalel Moore Date of upload: 19 June, 2014
