Old Clunie Castle is a ruined 13th century castle on a hillock beside the Loch of Clunie, built where Kenneth MacAlpin once hunted. It guarded the trail between the Upper Tay valley and Strathmore, and Edward I of England stayed four nights there in 1296 before moving on. The castle later fell quiet while a new bishop's tower rose on a crannog in the water beside it, as if the old stone had stepped aside to let the loch keep the story.
