Old Castle Inn stands on Nolton Street in Bridgend, a Post Medieval public house preserved in the national record. It is not a castle at all, though the name suggests one. The misdirection may have been deliberate, giving an ordinary drinking room the grandeur of a lost fortress. People walked past a castle that never existed, drawn inside by a name proud enough to believe its own fiction.
