Old Caerlaverock Castle stands in Dumfries and Galloway as a medieval castle and unassigned earthwork, its boundary marked only by grass and memory. The land may have swallowed chambers, stairs or halls, yet the castle still occupies the field like a forgotten name. People may have lived inside that hidden shape, hearing wind move through rooms no longer visible.

The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Old Caerlaverock Castle was built by the Maxwell family in the late 13th century and is remembered for its strategic role in border conflicts between England and Scotland. It was later replaced by the more substantial Caerlaverock Castle, which also fell to the English in 1300 during Robert the Bruce's campaign.
