Ogilvie Castle

Tower House (medieval)

What is recorded here

Ogilvie Castle stands in Perth and Kinross as the ruined tower house of the Murrays or Earls of Styrathearn, built around the thirteenth or fourteenth century and broken by the late sixteenth. Its stones still mark the ground where local power was lived, defended and forgotten. The exact chamber layout has faded, but the name and region keep the place accountable to memory.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ogilvie Castle as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Ogilvie Castle was built by the Ogilvie family in the 15th or 16th century and is remembered as a medieval tower house typical of Scottish feudal architecture. Its importance lies in its historical association with the Ogilvie clan and its role in the local defense and landholding structure of the time.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
