Ogham stone (present location)

What is recorded here

This is the present location of 1 of 3 ogham stones (CO122-049004- with CO122-049003- and CO122-049005-) found in a Man-made underground passage (CO122-049002-) at Ahalisky, Co. Cork. Macalister (1945, 73, no. 70) describes the stone as measuring 5ft x 2ft 1in x 8.5in and reading CUNAGUSOS MAQUI MUCOI VIRAGNI (see also McManus 1997, 65, 94). He also notes that 'the letters are cut on a very obtuse angle, in the middle of one of the broad faces of the slab; not on an edge, except the last few letters, which run along the edge of the top' (Macalister 1945, 73, no. 70). (Power et al. 1992, no. 1029) This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
