Unknown Townland holds a broken Kerry stone, split length-wise to erase the first half of its name. The remaining edge still carries MAQI RECTA, a ghost of identity preserved only because the damage stopped before the end.

This ogham stone may derive from Churchtown, Co. Kerry (KE065-012003-). Rhys, quoting from Graves, recorded that this stone was found in a churchyard ‘near Killorglin’ (1902, 16), while Macalister, also quoting Graves, recorded that it was first seen ‘standing in the churchyard at Knockane’ (1945, 248-9). The ogham stone measures 1.15m x .35m x .11m, and is split length-wise in half, removing the initial portion of the inscription. Macalister read the remainder, along the sinister angle, as: MAQI RECTA (O’Sullivan and Sheehan 1996, 354, no. 1089). Updated by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 31 January 2014
