Six feet of grey stone stands in Garranes, bearing the chipped name Cassittas son of Mucoi Calliti. It likely emerged from a hidden underground passage before men dragged it into the ringfort, forcing a buried identity back into daylight. The angular marks still catch rain and breath, waiting for someone to decode the family line they preserved.

This is the present location of the ogham stone (CO084-090003-) found in a ringfort (CO084-090001-) in Garranes, Co Cork and thought to have come from the Man-made underground passage (CO084-090002-) discovered later. According to Macalister (1945, 83, no. 81), it measures '5'9" x 1'7" x 0'7"' and reads: C[A]SSITT[A]S MAQI MUCOI CALLITI. McManus (2004, 15, no. 4) is generally in agreement but notes that the first name could end in -AS or -OS. (Power et al. 1992, no. 1037) Compiled by: Nora White Date of upload: 3 April 2016
