Ocean Hunter

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ocean Hunter as Motor Fishing Vessel (period Unassigned)-(2004). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The *Ocean Hunter* was a motor fishing vessel built in the early 20th century and active in Scottish waters until at least 2004. It was lost in a storm off the coast of Caithness in 1968, with two crew members drowned; the vessel carried a full cargo of herring, which was lost. Its significance lies in being one of the last large motor fishing vessels to operate in the traditional fishing grounds of the North East Atlantic before the decline of the local herring industry.
