What is recorded here

Ewes Castle is a medieval well in the Scottish Borders, not a grand stone palace. It may have given water to horses, people or travelling carts, while the castle part sounds like a later invention born from pride or mistake. That uncertainty makes the site more interesting because ordinary water can become legendary when people repeat its name.
