This blue commemorative plaque records: Nicholas Hilliard c.1547-1619 Portrait miniaturist at the royal courts of Elizabeth I and James I, and goldsmith. Son of Richard Hilliard c1519-1594, Exeter goldsmith. Both owned property in this parish and were patrons to the living of St Pancras Recorded plaque organisation: Exeter Civic Society.

Nicholas Hilliard was a renowned portrait miniaturist at the royal courts of Elizabeth I and James I, known for his detailed and delicate artworks; his father Richard Hilliard was an Exeter goldsmith, and both contributed significantly to the arts and were patrons in their local parish.
