Isle of May, North Sea, Fife, Scotland: a nineteenth-century schooner named Newcastle Packet vanished or struck trouble near this small island. The sea kept the incident private, but the name still floats above the water like a warning. Anyone sailing past should remember that small islands hide deep danger and that the North Sea gives back little.
