NEWCASTLE and BERWICK PACKET was a sloop, but no year or owner has survived to give the wood a face. The name suggests a busy life of crossing the border water between two proud towns, carrying mail, people or contraband while the packet system ran. The vessel has vanished, yet the name still points at a narrow strip of sea where distance became trivial and speed mattered more than size.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records NEWCASTLE and BERWICK PACKET as Sloop (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
