This bronze commemorative plaque records: Site of the Sherborne & Dorsetshire Bank circa 1750. Continued during the late 18th and early 19th centuries by Simon Pretor a grocer of this town. Amalgamated with the National Provincial Bank of England in 1843.
The Sherborne & Dorsetshire Bank, active from around 1750 to its amalgamation with the National Provincial Bank in 1843, played a significant role in local commerce under grocer Simon Pretor's management during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
