Myres Castle stands in Fife as a Z-plan fortress built around 1530 for John Scrimgeour, the hereditary home of the Sergeants of Arms of Falkland. Its square tower, added in 1616, rises above ochre walls and a basement that may date to the 14th century, while a Victorian gatehouse and 44 acres of gardens complete the estate. The name Myres points to a boggy place, fitting fields that still needed drainage work in the 1970s and a front pond that collects runoff.
