This black commemorative plaque records: Whiteford House (Within Galloways Entry) occupies the site of the Earl of Wintons' town mansion better known as My Lord Seytoun's Lugeing in the Canongate. See Scott's "Abbot" Vol.1 Chap. XVIII.
Robert Seton, Earl of Winton, was a Scottish nobleman whose town mansion, known as My Lord Seytoun's Lugeing, stood in the Canongate and is referenced in Sir Walter Scott's "The Abbot."
