This stone commemorative plaque records: Erected on the site of building used by Mungo Park as a surgery in 1891-2.
Mungo Park was a Scottish explorer and physician who undertook significant journeys to West Africa, notably tracing the course of the Niger River; his expeditions provided Europeans with some of the first detailed accounts of the region's geography and peoples.
